Shooting in Eagle Lake by open-carry individual

EAGLE LAKE -Shots were fired in Eagle Lake on Aug. 5 in what appears to be an open-carry person defending himself and his wife. According to witnesses, the shooter and his wife were exiting J&K in Eagle Lake with another man following behind and harassing the wife.

After a brief altercation, the shooting victim got in his car and allegedly attempted to run them over with his vehicle. The shooter drew his lawful- ly open-carry weapon and fired at the shooting victim, striking the assailant in the car.

Colorado County Chief Deputy Troy Neisner issued this statement: The Eagle Lake Police Department and the Colora- do County Sheriff's Office responded to J&K's Corner in Eagle Lake in reference to a report of shots fired on Aug. 5.

Upon arrival, all of the involved parties remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

It was determined that an incident had escalated into a shooting subsequent to an assault with a motor vehicle that originated from a verbal argument.

The victim had been shot in a non-vital body part, and the shooter has alleged the incident was self-defense due to the assault with a motor vehicle. The victim, 50, who was shot is from Bellville and the individual identified as the shooter, 60, is from Alleyton.

The victim was transported to Rice Medical Center by EMS for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made at this time. No names of involved subjects or other details are being released until further investigation can be conducted.
