BELLVILLE — The Bellville Volunteer Fire Department held its annual fundraiser on Aug. 18 at the Austin County Fairgrounds in Bellville.
Each year, the hall fills up with folks who want to show their support for the firefighters' work for the community.
Volunteer firefighters are just that, volunteers. They have jobs that they leave every time the alarm sounds. They wake up in the early morning hours and hopefully get back in time to go to work. They drop their fork and knife at the dinner table and kiss the kids and wife goodbye, and, Lord willing, they will be back.
Each year, BVFD holds its annual fundraiser, and everyone knows that the cost of the food is well worth it. Not because it also goes to a good cause but because they pile the food on and if you leave hungry, that's on you.
