Honors and Shocker at Commissioner's Court

Colorado County Commissioners recognized long-time Sergeant Carol Richter on her retirement during the regular court meeting on Aug. 14. Though Richter was not present for the meeting, Judge Ty Prause said before reading a resolution in her honor that she was a 'very dedicated person' as she worked for Colorado County Sheriff's Office since 1981. Prause read aloud the resolution which read in part: Sergeant Carol Richter, faithfully and diligently served the citizens of Colorado County with the Colorado County Sheriff's Office from July 14, 1981, un til her retirement date of July 31, 2023.

She served with effectiveness, devotion, and honor to herself and her position. This body acting on its own accord wishes to recognize the exemplary service of Sergeant Richter for her untiring and devoted efforts to the citizens of Colorado County. Therefore, let it be resolved that the Commissioners Court of Colorado County, Texas honors Sergeant Carol Richter upon the occasion of her retirement from the Colorado County Sheriff's Office, commends her for her extraordinary career, and applauds her courageous efforts on behalf of the citizens of Colorado County.

At the end of the regular session agenda items, and during the announcements just before adjournment, Precinct 1 Commissioner Doug Wessels announced that he would not be running for re-election and that 'next year will be his last.'

Judge Ty Prause responded, 'That's a bombshell and not something I wanted to hear.'
