LA GRANGE — The La Grange High School volleyball team fell to East Bernard High School August 22 at Leopards Gym by a final score of 25-14, 16- 25, 14-25, 11-25. La Grange had a really good first set and looked in sync, then East Bernard snapped back into shape to dominate the next three sets with a clicking offense. “When we start making mistakes, we get in our own heads,” said La Grange head volleyball coach Leslie Coltrain.

“The inexperience shows. When we start making multiple errors, they can pile on top of each other. Good thing is that those things are fixable. It's not like they wiped the floor with us, we just made some unforced errors that we can actually clean up and fix."

La Grange took a 10-5 lead on a ball out of bounds from East Bernard before the Lady Brahmas fought back and made it 11-9, this time on a ball out of bounds from La Grange. The Lady Leopards started to pull away with two kills in a row, one being from sophomore outside hitter Carley Ulrich, to put the score at 18-10. La Grange kept their lead at 20-14 on another kill from Ulrich, then scored the final five points of the set, ending it on

an ace from sophomore outside hitter Kylie Trlicek to win the set 25-14.

The Lady Leopards kept it close for a good portion of the second set until East Bernard scored seven points in a row, mostly on kills with some mistakes from La Grange mixed in, to put the Lady Brahmas ahead 24-14. La Grange scored the next two points, then East Bernard won the set on a kill at 25-16.

La Grange kept afloat again early in the third set and East Bernard saw enough by taking a 17-8 lead on a ton of kills and the 17th point being on a ball out of bounds from La Grange. A block from East Bernard made it 20-10 and La Grange called timeout, which led to East Bernard scoring the next three points with two of them being on errors from La Grange. A kill from the Lady Brahmas for the final point won them the set 25-14.

The fourth set wasn’t close as East Bernard took over straight out of the gate and scored ten consecutive points for a 19-4 scoreboard. A kill from La Grange’s Trlicek made it 20-7, which was later answered by a kill from East Bernard for a 2211 lead. The Lady Brahmas ultimately won the set and match on two balls out of bounds from La Grange and a tip ball to grab a 25-11 victory.
