Schulenburg and Weimar ISD implement HOPE Squad

SCHULENBURG – Schulenburg Independent School District (SISD) and Weimar Independent School District (WISD) have announced the introduction of HOPE Squad, a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program, within their schools for the upcoming academic year.

SCHULENBURG – Schulenburg Independent School District (SISD) and Weimar Independent School District (WISD) have announced the introduction of HOPE Squad, a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program, within their schools for the upcoming academic year.

HOPE Squad, recognized as a nationwide suicide awareness and prevention initiative, has been chosen to foster an inclusive atmosphere for discussions surrounding students' mental well-being.

As part of a significant step forward, six educators representing SISD and WISD underwent training in late May.

These trained professionals are now poised to serve as dedicated HOPE Squad advisors, leading the initiative to educate a select group of students on identifying potential warning signs and providing crucial support to peers experiencing distress.

Guided by a curriculum designed to instill empathy and active listening, and to reduce the stigma associated with seeking mental health assistance, these students will play a pivotal role in creating a compassionate and understanding environment within the school communities.

The adoption of the HOPE Squad program underscores the shared commitment of SISD and WISD toward addressing mental health concerns and fostering open dialogues on this critical topic.

This important endeavor has been made possible through two Texas Behavioral Health Funders Collaborative grants which were facilitated by the Red Door Fund for Mental Health, an initiative of the Fayette Community Foundation.

With the implementation of the HOPE Squad program, SISD and WISD take a significant stride towards prioritizing mental health and well-being, ensuring that students receive the support and resources they need during challenging times.
