Austin County had five pecan entries move on from the county show to the East Regional Pecan Show for the 2022 crop year. There was a total of 93 entries from 12 different counties.
Judging was held on Jan. 11, in College Station. Judges for this event were: Warren Chatwin, Keith Kubenka, Braden Tondre, and Xinwang Wang, all from USDA-ARS Pecan Genetics, and Bill Ree, Extension Entomologist (retired). The results are as follows: second place Choctaw– Linda Villarreal Reserve Champion Native - Luedeker Farms (JV Favorite); second place Natives- Luedeker Farms (JV Favorite); and third place Natives- Annie Wittner These three will move on to th.e State show with results in July.
