Several times, a notice has been sent out to conserve energy by limiting usage during certain times of the day. Searing and soaring temperatures hovering over Texas have generated increased wattage in homes and businesses across the state.
The most recent suggestion to conserve was Aug. 24 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. when ERCOT asked Texans to conserve electrical use. ERCOT attributed the request to low wind-power generation and high demand that depleted operating reserves.
The energy agency says it is not experiencing emergency conditions at this time. Their forecasts predict a high possibility of an emergency operation being implemented. ERCOT cites the need to reduce energy usage due to extreme heat, record demand, low winds, solar declination and switchable capacity. Texas has set ten new all-time peak demand records so far this summer.
ERCOT suggests following it on X @ERCOT_ISO, on Facebook and LinkedIn.
