COLUMBUS — Colorado County Commissioner's Court met for a regular meeting on Sept 11 and two proclamations were announced. The commissioners made a proclamation for German-American Day set for Oct. 6.
Judge Ty Prause read the proclamation aloud and it read in part: On October 6, 1683, 13 families land- ed in Philadelphia, having set sail from the German city of Krefeld. These pioneers found- ed the first German settle ment in America in German- town, Pennsylvania. Since this auspicious beginning, millions of German immigrants have come to our nation in pursuit of personal and religious freedoms and economic opportunity. German immigration to Texas began in the 1830s and developed in large part through the initiative of Johann Fried rich Ernst, known as the 'Father of German Immigration', his settlement of Industry being the first German town in Texas. Ger - man settlers arrived in Colorado County in 1832 and continued settling here for many years. The sons and daughters of German immigrants have served this County and this Country stead- fastly in all fields, and continue to celebrate their heritage.
Now therefore, I, Ty Prause, County Judge, Colorado County, Texas, do hereby proclaim October 6, 2023, as Ger- man-American Day. We call upon all citizens to recognize the vital role that German-Ameri - cans have played in the develop ment of our country, state, and nation.
Prause also read aloud a proc- lamation for Life Insurance Awareness Month for the month of September.
The proclamation read in part: The vast majori - ty of Americans recognize that it is important to protect
loved ones with life insur - ance, with surveys indicat ing that more than 80 percent agree that most people need coverage. The life insurance in -
dustry provides a tremendous source of financial relief and se curity to families that experi- ence the loss of a loved one.
Despite the importance that people place on life insurance and the peace of mind that it brings to millions of American families, there are still too many Americans who lack ade- quate coverage.
The unfortunate reality is that roughly 95 million adult Amer -
icans have no life insurance and most with coverage have less than most experts recommend. Millions of Americans realize that they are under insured, with nearly one in three believing that they do not have enough coverage. During times like these when so manyfamilies continue to strug- gle, life insurance coverage is more important than ever because people have fewer fi nancial resources to fall back on than in years past, increas- ing their financial vulnerability. The nonprofit Life Hap - pens organization and a coali tion representing hundreds of leading life insurance compa- nies and organizations have des ignated September as “Life Insurance Awareness Month,” whose goal is to get consumers thinking about their need for life insurance protection, to encourage them to seek ad- vice from a qualified insurance professional, and to take the ac- tions necessary to achieve a financially secure future for their loved ones. Now, therefore, be it resolved that: I, Judge Ty Prause, of Colo rado County, do hereby proclaim September 2023 as Life Insur ance Awareness Month and do urge our citizens to learn more about life insurance and its ben- efits.
