ONTRIBUTOR LA GRANGE — Along with cities and counties across the nation, the Fayette County Com- missioners Court officially pro claimed Jan. 29 through Feb. 4 Catholic Schools Week and commended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School for its service to local students.
"We appreciate all the work the commissioners' court does and the support you give the community and schools,” said Rosanna Gallia, principal of St.
Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg, at the Jan. 26 meeting in the Fayette County Courthouse in La Grange. “It is so important to educate young chil dren today and get them ready to be good productive citizens in the future. We have excellent academics and (extracurricular) activities.”
Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller recognized the signifi cance of Catholic schools in educating local students and said he benefitted from St. Rose's curric -
ulum personally.
“You have got two alumni from St. Rose. Commissioner (Drew) Brossman and I both went to St. Rose,” said Mueller. “In fact, Commissioner Bross- man's grandmother was my third-grade teacher.”
According to the proclama - tion, Catholic schools provide more than $22 billion a year in savings to the nation based on average public school per-pupil costs. Nationally, Catholic school graduation rates are more than 99%, and about 85% of students go on to attend college. This year marks St. Rose's 124th year of service to Fayette County students and families.
With a motion from Brossman, the court voted unanimously to designate the week in honor of Catholic schools.
“I, Dan Mueller, Judge of Fayette County, in recognition of the outstanding work done at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg, do hereby proclaim the week of January 29, 2023, as Catholic Schools Week in Fayette County, Texas,” said Mueller during last Thursday's meeting.
