NAVASOTA — Last night (Sept. 11) the Sealy Team Tennis team traveled to Navasota for their first match of the season.
After a close fought competition, Sealy had their first victory of the season with a score of 10-9 over Navasota. Due to lack of participants at the end of school last year and a coaching change this season started off later than most. There was no time for the preseason warm-up match be- fore district, so this was our first match. Both the team and myself learned a lot last night. There were 19 matches played and in those 19 matches, 8 matches came down to a tie breaker match, which we only won 3 of them, so 5 matches easily could have been a win for us with just a couple of little tweaks to the game. With 6 of the 14 players being Freshman and then the entire boys side being new I believe they did a great job at learning on the fly and finishing strong.
These players have bright futures in this sport and I am very excited to see how the rest of the season goes.
These are the matches that pulled out wins for us last night: Singles: Kaden Crawley, Trinity Harding, Eliza Fausto, Emmy McDaniel, Sam Biberstein, Mason Infante and Peyton Wilson.
Doubles: Blake Pleasant/Reese Reichardt, Eliza Fausto/Peyton Wilson and Mason Infante/ Sam Biberstein.
These are the matches that went to a tiebreaker super set and lost in a very close tight match: Doubles: Max Hinze/Parker Vesely, and Trinity Harding/ Emmy McDaniels.
Singles: Hayden Kalinec, Max Hinze and Abraham Barrera.
So now we are officially 1-0 in District!!! Next Match in Sealy on Sept. 27.
