NADA — Twenty-one graduating seniors from Columbus ISD, Rice CISD, Weimar ISD and one homeschooler were the recipients of up to $85,000 in scholarship money given out by the Colorado County Area Go Texan Scholarship Fundraiser group.
The group, headed by 2023 County Chairman Amber McCarthy, and a large crowd gathered at St. Mary’s Community Center in Nada on Sept. 16, to congratulate the 2023 scholarship winners and to raise more money for 2024. After a brief social gathering, the 2023 scholarship recipients and the HLSR guests were introduced followed by a prime rib dinner catered by Mikeska’s from Columbus.
The bidding at the live auction was brisk as Auctioneer Todd Krenek kept things moving in the upward direction. There were lucky winners in the silent auction and the gun drawing.
It is all for a good cause as this annual gathering provides scholarships for Colorado County students. The group has given over $254,000 in scholarship dollars since 2011.
