LA GRANGE — Leopards football grasped their first win of the season September 22 at Leopards Field against Splendora High School on homecoming night by a final score of 63-47.

Both teams responded to each others scores for the game’s duration and as the came could’ve went either way, La Grange came up with big plays and touchdowns to put a check in the win column. “We made a few halftime things and looked at a couple things,” said La Grange head football coach Kyle Cooper.

“I kind of told them ‘look, we’re gonna let the tempo eat, stay after them, mix it up, and get it done’.”

La Grange running back Le’Kayvion Broussard rushed for three touchdowns on the evening and punched in the game-sealing score in the final minute of the game to secure a win for his team. “Feels great,” Broussard said. “We’ve been get- ting beat and a first win tonight feels great.”

The Leopards converted the opening score of the night after a long run from quarterback Clayton Cooper and he followed it up with a one-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead at the seven and a half minute mark in the first quarter. Splendora answered with two-scores in a row on an 11-yard catch and six yard run for a 14-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Broussard scored a 1-yard touchdown to start the second quarter and a missed extra point put it at 14-13, then Splendora scored a touchdown run for 60 yards and La Grange responded with a catch for 24-yards in the end zone and a two-point conversion to tie it at 21. Broussard reached the end zone again for a five-yard run and senior wide-receiver Thai Scott joined the party with a 23-yard touchdown catch from Cooper in the back-right corner of the end zone to go into the locker room with a 36-27 lead at halftime.

La Grange junior wide receiver Julian Sherman reeled in a touchdown catch of 19 yards with 4:46 to go in the third quarter and no other scores took place in the third quarter. Splendora freshman wide receiver Victor Ballah caught a 21-yard pass for a score

with 10:47 to play in the fourth quarter before La Grange’s Cooper went in the end zone on a read-option play for five yards.

Leopards senior running back Jeremiah Dillard added a goal line touchdown that was an- swered by a long pass and short touchdown run up the middle by Splendora.

Broussard’s last touchdown for La Grange put the nail in the coffin at the 48 second mark to ensure a victory at 63-47.
