WALLIS — The Brazos High School volleyball team took a tough loss to East Bernard High School Sept. 19 at Cougars Gym by sweep with a final score of 7-25, 13-25, 13-25. The Cougarettes struggled to stop East Bernard’s lethal offense throughout the whole match as things went East Bernard’s way in each of the three sets.

“They just came out with the momentum and were swinging big the entire night,” said Brazos head volleyball coach Amanda Hatton.“I just don’t like we stayed on our heels most of the night. We really couldn’t get an offense running.”

A block from East Bernard in the first set made it 9-2 and forced Brazos to call timeout. East Bernard maintained control with many kills and a bunch of balls out of bounds from the Cougarettes to eventually take 19-5 lead, then the Brahmanettes closed out the set with five points in a row, the last point being another ball out of bounds from Brazos to win the set 25-7.

Brazos made a block of their own in the second set to take a 4-1 lead and even took a 7-3 lead on a kill from senior outside hitter Reagan Cullen. East Bernard went on to score 10 points in a row and put the score at 17-8, which was followed by another streak of five points at the end of the set and the last point a kill by Kaitlyn Sulak, to grasp the set 25-13.

East Bernard’s scoring runs didn’t stop as they scored seven in a row in the third set to put it at 14-3. The Brahmanettes maintained the same amount of cushion for the remainder of the set on kills and an ace mixed in to win the set and match 25-13.
