The Texas Voter Registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023.
If you are not registered in Colorado County by this date you will not be able to vote locally in the Nov.
7, 2023 election.
If you are a registered voter you do not need to re-register. If you are unsure you can check voter registration at https://www.votetexas. gov/ New voter registration cards will be sent out automatically in 2024. You do not need your voter registration certificate to vote, just bring in your picture ID (most common driver’s license).
Commonly asked questions in regards to voter registration: Q. Does the address on my ID (acceptable form of photo ID, or supporting form of ID, if applicable) have to match my address on the official list of registered voters at the time of voting in order for it to be acceptable as ID?
A. No. There is no address matching requirement.
Q. I own property in Colorado County, but I am registered to vote in another county, can I vote in Colorado County on propositions or measures that may affect my property tax?
A. No. You have to be registered in the county and precinct that affects those areas.
Q. I own property in one county but live in another, how does this effect my voter registration?
A. The address you utilize for voter registration is where you “live”.
Sec. 1.015. RESIDENCE. (a) In this code, 'residence' means domicile, that is, one's home and fixed place of habitation to which one intends to return after any temporary absence.
(b) A person may not establish residence for the purpose of influencing the outcome of a certain election.
(c) A person does not lose the person's residence by leaving the person's home to go to another place for temporary purposes only.
(d) A person does not acquire a residence in a place to which the person has come for temporary purposes only and without the intention of making that place the person's home.
(e) A person who is an inmate in a penal institution or who is an involuntary inmate in a hospital or eleemosynary institution does not, while an inmate, acquire residence at the place where the institution is located.
(f) A person may not establish a residence at any place the person has not inhabited. A person may not designate a previous residence as a home and fixed place of habitation unless the person inhabits the place at the time of designation and intends to remain.
Colorado County will have a Constitutional Amendment Election which includes all polling locations and precincts. There are 14 Amendments on the ballot with a majority effecting property tax.
There is a local measure on the ballot in November that only affects a portion of the county, if you do not know if you are part of that district please contact our office in advance or speak to the poll worker prior to voting.
