WEIMAR - Forty-four dogs were rescued by the Weimar Police and the Houston SPCA Investigators Unit on Oct. 11 on property off County Road 202 in Weimar.
The investigation and action took place after the Houston SPCA found out that Chihuahuas were living in deplorable conditions on that property.
The dogs, one of which was dead, were kept outside without anything to eat or drink. The Houston SPCA Investigative Unit and the Weimar Police Department conducted the raid at which time the animals were secured and sent to the SPCA in Houston. The person responsible for the care and custody of the animals may face charges of animal cruelty.
Animal cruelty is a felony and could carry a sentence of up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
