Fayette County Sheriff Keith Ko - renek reported that on Oct. 10 the Fay - ette County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Canine Unit, SGT Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Volkswagen passenger car on Interstate 10 at the 665 mile-marker at approximately 12:15 p.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver, Sgt Thumann became suspicious that the driver may be involved in transporting illegal narcotics. Sgt. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle, deploying his canine partner, Kolt, to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann observed Kolt alert to the vehicle for the presence of illegal narcotics. Sgt. Thumann searched the vehicle and discovered approximately two ki - los of cocaine inside a cereal box and $10,000 inside a headphones box. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $200,000. The driver, Isidro Maldonado, 29, from San Antonio, was arrested for Felony Possession and Felony Money Laundering.
Maldonado was taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange and booked on the above charges.
