Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller issued the following statement, “The closing of St. Mark’s Hospital is a crippling loss for the City of La Grange and all of Fayette County.

We all feel the loss. Those who lost jobs after years of dedicated service are devastated, I’m sure.

Here in Fayette County, we are resilient. We have faced hardships and we have overcome. We will again.

I urge you to visit with your physician and discuss a plan should you require hospitalization in the future.

Hospitals in our area include: Smithville, Hallettsville, Columbus and Brenham.

I have been working closely with Fayette County EMS Director Josh Vandever to ensure quality transportation to any of these hospitals.

Over the last 9 months, La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery and I have exhausted all efforts to keep St. Mark’s open. For the past several months, I have had many conversations with a representative of a company who is exploring the possibility of locating a retirement community in La Grange.

Part of the company’s plan will be a hospital. I have a good feeling that this plan could become a reality. There are other resources to be explored which could result in getting a new hospital. I believe, when GOD closes a door, he opens a window.

This is a work in progress and I will keep the public updated. Ever Sincerely, Dan Mueller, Fayette County Judge.”
