Wildcats shut out the Bulldogs

WEIMAR - The Weimar High School football team defeated Flatonia High School in blowout fashion by a final score of 31-0 Oct. 27 at Wildcats Field. Flatonia struggled to get any offense going and Weimar was able to move the ball down the field on the majority of their offensive possessions, which led to a finish of the job by reaching the end zone and scoring points. "With the playoffs on the line, a team that we're 20 minutes away from, kind of a rival with us, just awesome," said Weimar head football coach Wade Griffin.

"Just excited to get as physical as we did. I thought we dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage. Offensively, I thought we kind of got behind the sticks sometimes and screwed ourselves a little bit, but super proud of our effort for sure." Wildcats quarterback Huxton Kloesel scored two touchdowns for the evening and also made an interception on defense. "I mean, it just feels great," Kloesel said. "We haven't been to the playoffs in a couple years. We have not had a lot of success in the past. We turned it around this year and it's awesome. All the hard work we put in is finally paying off." Flatonia looks to learn from this game and still has their sights set on a playoff birth. "The difference was we didn't put any points on the board," said Flatonia head football coach Brent Mascheck. "If you don't score, you're not gonna win a lot of games. I thought they were very physical. They did a lot of good stuff. I thought our kids played so hard. Defensively, they did a good job of containing their offense, but on offense if we continue to put them in bad positions, they're gonna score. Very disappointing. Was not expecting this at all. Hats off to Weimar. They really played a good football game, so hats off to them." Kloesel scored the only touchdown of the first quarter at the goal line with 7:03 to play for a 6-0 lead after a missed extra point. Dereon Johnson found the end zone next on a run of 15 yards at about the eight minute mark to cap off a nice drive and take a 12-0 lead, failing to make the two point conversion. Kloesel added his second touchdown as time was winding down in the final minute of the half for 4 yards, then no points were scored in the third quarter, leading to 20 yard run from Zach Norrell and a 10 yarder from Wyatt Lacina, both in the last six and a half minutes of the ball game to seal a 31-0 win on consistent offense and bringing the pressure on defense.
