Busted burglars may clear up several in area

COLUMBUS – Colorado County Deputies were dispatched to Mikeska’s BBQ at 4053 US Highway 90 in reference to a burglary alarm on Oct. 23. While en route, Deputies observed a vehicle traveling from the direction of the business on US Highway 90 toward Columbus. Deputy Tyler Pavlicek stopped the vehicle for a defective equipment violation while Deputy Zane Blaha continued to the business.

COLUMBUS — Colorado County Deputies were dispatched to Mikeska’s BBQ at 4053 US Highway 90 in reference to a burglary alarm on Oct. 23. While en route, Deputies observed a vehicle traveling from the direction of the business on US Highway 90 toward Columbus. Deputy Tyler Pavlicek stopped the vehicle for a defective equipment violation while Deputy Zane Blaha continued to the business.

Deputy Blaha arrived at Mikeska BBQ discovering the business had been burglarized and unknown suspects had left prior to his arrival.

Deputy Pavlicek during the traffic stop developed probable cause to search the vehicle occupied by five males. During the search of the vehicle, Pavlicek located assorted criminal instruments, masks, and assorted currency inside the vehicle.

Deputy Blaha met with the victim who reported currency was taken in the denominations similar to currency and the amount found in the vehicle.

Deputy Blaha and Deputy Pavlicek determined tools found inside the vehicle were similar to tool marks observed where forced entry was made into the business. The Deputies also determined that the vehicle was the same suspect vehicle posted on the Eagle Lake Police Department’s Facebook page involved in multiple burglaries on or about October 11, 2023.

As a result of these Deputies conducting a thorough investigation Charles Perkins 27, Julian Murphy 24, Belvyon Jackson 20, and two juveniles, all of Houston, were taken into custody for Burglary of a Building, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, and Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument.

The juveniles were processed, referred to juvenile probation, and released to their guardian.The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Columbus Police Department.
