Bellville celebrates 175 years Texas style

BELLVILLE – Where else can you buy fresh veggies, wine and hear gunshots ring out in downtown Bellville? In most Texas towns, this is a Saturday occurrence. However, this year, it came with a jailbreak Nov. 4.

BELLVILLE — Where else can you buy fresh veggies, wine and hear gunshots ring out in downtown Bellville? In most Texas towns, this is a Saturday occurrence. However, this year, it came with a jailbreak Nov. 4.

Now, let’s clear up a few things, like the weather. The weather was great. The veggies and other artisan goods were for sale at the Farmers Market, which included locally produced wine and, yes, there were gunshots and a jailbreak, albeit a choreographed one.

Celebrating 175 years of being Bellville, the beautiful weather brought crowds of people out to visit Bellville. The Farmers Market and the Arts and Crafts vendors were plentiful; if you couldn't find something you needed or wanted, you weren’t in Bellville. The reinacted jailbreak and shootout occurred many years ago.

The Bellville Historical Society did an excellent job of keeping the activities coming, and everyone felt the excitement of this special year.
