Tri-county area rebuffs State Prop 13

Proposition 13 was the only state proposition out of 14 propositions that Austin, Colorado and Fayette counties voted against. State Proposition 13 would have allowed judges to mandatorily retire at 79 instead of 75 and would have increased the minimum retirement age for judges from 70 to 75.

Proposition 13 was the only state proposition out of 14 propositions that Austin, Colorado and Fayette counties voted against. State Proposition 13 would have allowed judges to mandatorily retire at 79 instead of 75 and would have increased the minimum retirement age for judges from 70 to 75.

The 13 other propositions passed gave the thumbs up for monies to go into infrastructure, tech, energy, and research, raised retired teachers’ retirement income, and allowed the state to give property tax cuts.

State Proposition 4 calls for the state to put $18 billion into property tax relief for both homeowners and businesses. This money will offset what school districts lose when school district property taxes are lowered. According to Decision Desk HQ, 84 percent of state-wide voters, or nearly 1.3 million voters, approved the amendment.
