State of the City Address of Eagle Lake shows future shines bright

The Eagle Lake Community Center was buzzing with excitement from a room full of citizens with the advent of the State of the City Address given by Mayor Tim Kelley and City Manager Tink Jackson.

The first-ever State of the City Address was held on Nov. 9 at the Eagle Lake Community Center.

The two circulated among the crowd before getting down to business of the city.

Despite the rainy weather the center was packed with eager citizens to hear what has been done and what the future holds for Eagle Lake.

Kelley highlighted the great work of the city crew and the staff of Eagle Lake. Kelley also emphasized how, thanks to Budget Officer Angie Jo Jackson and City Manager Tink Jackson, the city’s bond rate went from a D to an A-plus. This was critical so the town could borrow additional bond monies over the $2.1 million at an even better rate. The bond now sits at $3.1 million. With this $3.1 million, the sewer line, water line, and the whole road will be replaced throughout critical points in the city.

Kelley’s priority, and one of the reasons he ran as mayor, was the road conditions.

Many projects and initiatives were presented to the audience and many were met with a round of applause.

Since the arrival of Jackson, the city of Eagle Lake has made positive advancements in infrastructure and money- saving moves, however, this was only done with the cooperation of the forward-thinking city council and an employee roster of civic-oriented employees.

Kelley told the audience that builder DSR Properties will be bringing single- family and apartments or condos to the city very shortly. One hundred acres will be ranchettes, and 30 acres in the city limits will be apartments or condos.

Before the exciting news about the city, everyone was treated to a steak dinner and take-aways.

The City of Eagle Lake is on the move. And that move is up.
