By now, the turkey has been reduced to turkey salad, turkey sandwiches, or turkey soup. Take your pick.
The turkey gravy has been licked clean and the pumpkin pie pan has also been licked clean. Everything turkey is now giving way to the other holiday that somehow started to supersede Thanksgiving Day.
Christmas commercials, Christmas toys in stores, Christmas lists and Christmas decorations popped up before the Thanksgiving turkey was even thawed out.
The Thanksgiving turkey has now been replaced with the Christmas ham. Christmas heart-string movies are running 24/7 on TV and now the season of Christmas songs will fill the airways.
How I long for Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin.
This mad dash to get past Thanksgiving has left me feeling a little blue. I want to sit back and take a little time to think about what I am most thankful for. Aside from the obvious of being thankful for God’s Grace and Mercy, I want to thank “hands”. Dianne came up with this Thanksgiving thanks and I think it deserves thanks for Thanksgiving.
Our hands do many things for many people. It quilts blankets that are given to the homeless for warmth. Hands hold other hands for those in need of compassion. Hands build for those who need a place to call home or worship. Hands prepare meals for the hungry. Hands fold together to pray for those who are in need of prayers. Hands hold on to others who need holding and not let go. Hands lift up in worship of our Lord. Hands applaud those who need applauding and encouraging.
So, give someone a hand and give thanks before the cranberry sauce is gone.
1 Chronicles 16:34 -“O, give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth forever.”
Oh, hands are good for getting food to one’s mouth, but I have been known not to use my hands for that.
