FLATONIA — Bulldogs girl’s basketball put a beating on Yorktown High School Nov. 21 at Bulldogs Gym by a final score of 62-20. Flatonia’s offense was on fire as they were able to score around the perimeter and down near the paint as well, overpowering Yorktown in all aspects.
“Our biggest focus this year is getting everyone the ball, getting more people to score," said first- year Flatonia head girl’s basketball coach Bethany McLeod.
“So that way we can focus on other people doing that and stepping up so it’s not so much pressure on Summer. Today, we did a really good job of that. Passing the ball, getting everyone the ball. I think almost everybody shot the ball. It was just a good day overall of team ball.”
Flatonia sophomore guard Summer Sodek had 31 points for the event and has been scoring at a very high rate ever since she’s stepped on the floor at Flatonia. "I feel definitely more confidence," Sodek said on transitioning into her sophomore year. “Just feel like a stronger player now. I work better with my teammates and I feel better, but still good.”
The Lady Bulldogs had a 2714 advantage with 3:35 to play in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 35-14 lead after a three pointer from sophomore shooting guard Kalen Scott, a fast break layup from freshman center Katelin Sullivan, and another three pointer. Flatonia stretched their lead even further in the third quarter with tons of scoring from Sodek which included two and one baskets, a floater, and a three pointer. A couple free throws and another three pointer added to the mix put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 51-20 at the end of the third quar ter.
Scott added a fast break layup to start the fourth quarter, then Sullivan added two layups as well to up the score. Flatonia ended up putting their reserves in and won the game comfortably 62-20.
