Nothing screams “fancy” more than mini marshmallows in hot chocolate. So mom bought those big, honkin’ marshmallows to put in our hot chocolate. Now, don’t get me wrong, even having those big marshmallows in our hot chocolate was a treat.
Mom made hot chocolate the old-fashioned way - from scratch. She would get Hershey’s cocoa out in the dark, brown box. Then, she would painstakingly mix, stir, and add just the right amount of cocoa, sugar, and milk. The labor of love tasted sweet as hot chocolate, and I remember pure perfection to this day. Yes, we had it most cold mornings. Sometimes we had it with the huge marshmallows. On special occasions, we would have mini marshmallows. Don’t know why mini marshmallows were so special. I guess because we never had them but they were always available.
Our faith in a loving, merciful yet just God is like a whole pot of hot chocolate. He fills our bodies and soul. He warms our hearts. He gives that made-from-scratch labor of love for His children. Even when we misbehave and don’t deserve it, we can count on that warmth in a cold world.
So many of us try to fill our lives with a paper packet of instant hot chocolate mix of imitation idols such as Hollywood actors, sports figures, material possessions and an immoral lifestyle.
No matter what you have done in your life that deserves Devine punishment, it is not too late to pour out that paper packet of nothingness and switch to the real thing. Our lives are already blessed by God. He adds the large marshmallows of the Gospel. He saves the mini marshmallows of eternal life for that special occasion when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Luke 23: 43, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise”. Now that’s special.
