COLUMBUS — Jack and Judi Johnson, representatives for the David and Eula Wintermann Foundation handed Julie Prause, president of the Columbus Historical Preservation Trust, $20,000 for the 'Save Our Opera House' capital campaign. This contribution triggered another $20,000 in matching funds for a total of $40,000. Judi's aunt and uncle, David and Eula Wintermann started the foundation in 1984 and have given millions in donations to support medical research and local community needs.

Last year alone, they provided more than 16 grants, including $66,558 to the Colorado County Sheriff's Department.

The Stafford Opera House is the crown jewel of Columbus and of Colorado County. Their generous donation will help with the repairs and renovations including elevator modernization, addition of restrooms on the Grand Hall floor, and numerous other repairs that have accumulated over the years.

CHPT's Board of Directors are extremely grateful to Jack and Judi Johnson, and the Wintermann Foundation for this significant donation and show of support for such an historic landmark.
