WEIMAR - It is easy to look back in history and be amazed at how far Wei-
mar has come with its ebb and flow of businesses and citizens. Imagine looking forward 150 years ago and seeing the thriving, growing and energetic town of Weimar as it stands today.
Weimar was founded in 1873 with the advent of the Galveston, Harrisburg, and San Antonio Railroad, which was making its way in rural America. The community was first called Jackson af - ter D.W. Jackson who was a landowner who donated the land for the railroad to build its tracks.
The Weimar name came to be when Thomas W. Pierce visited Weimar, Germany, and was impressed. Founded in 1873, the town was incorporated in 1875. By 1888, The Weimar Mercury began publication and still remains in publication today.
