SEALY — The Sealy Police Department wants everyone to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Recently, three burglary of motor vehicle cases have happened on Overcreek Way. in Sealy.

The tie-in to these three burglaries is the victims recently left the bank and went straight home.

The Sealy PD Criminal Investigation Division identified a suspect through witness statements and surveillance videos. Stoney Bernard Oliver, 40, of Rosharon, was arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, and two open warrants for burglary of motor vehicles from other agencies.

Bank jugging victims are observed leaving a bank or ATM, and the jugger follows them to their next stop and burglarizes the victim’s vehicle, hoping to find the withdrawn cash.

The Sealy Police Department suggests everyone be on the lookout for persons backed into parking spaces who do not exit their vehicle to do business at that location.

Be vigilant when using ATMs since these are the areas typically targeted. Be on the lookout when arriving and departing a bank parking lot.

Conceal your money before you leave the bank and don’t openly carry bank bags, envelopes or coin boxes.

If you believe you are being followed or see a suspicious vehicle, call 911 and keep the dispatcher on the line to describe your location and where you are headed, and keep driving until a marked police car finds you.

Bank jugging happens all year around but it may be more prevalant around the holidays because more people carry cash to shop.
