Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop Dec. 19 on Interstate 10 westbound at the 662 mile marker on a 2023 white Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup for traffic violations.
Upon contact with the driver, several criminal indicators were observed.
Smith was given consent to search the vehicle which was oc -
cupied by the male driver and a male passenger.
While conducting the search
Smith observed the spare tire had been tampered with and asked
the driver if they had done some- thing with the spare tire and re - plied "no." Smith scanned the tire with his handheld scanner and observed several bundles in the tire. Smith then placed the driver, Everado Luna Guerrero, 34, and the pas - senger, Salvador Gamez, 19, both of Edinburg, under arrest.
The total amount of cash bun - dles seized was $199,910. Both subjects were transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange and charged with Felony Money Laundering.
