72nd Texas State Championship Domino Tournament is history

HALLETTSVILLE – Hallettsville has hosted the Texas State Domino Championship at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville for over 72 years, and even the cold and rain didn’t stop hordes of would-be champions from coming to town to claim coveted titles in the game of dominos.

HALLETTSVILLE — Hallettsville has hosted the Texas State Domino Championship at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville for over 72 years, and even the cold and rain didn’t stop hordes of would-be champions from coming to town to claim coveted titles in the game of dominos.

Opening up for play on Jan. 14 at 9 a.m., the last domino fell at 12:45 a.m. the next day, with teams as far away as Arkansas laying down tiles. First place went to Gary Fuller of Hallettsville and partner Kevin Tesch of Moulton, second place went to Louis Kolof of Hallettsville and partner Abe Agbogun of Houston, third place went to Al North of El Campo and partner Darrell Hardway of El Campo and fourth place went to John Flanery of New Boston and partner Larry Jackson of Bokchito, Okla.
