Burdine (Hilgen) Divin, 81, of Ellinger, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Burdine was born in Wesley, Texas on July 21, 1942, the daughter of Elsa (Stammann) and Garhard Hilgen. She was baptized into the Christian faith on October 15, 1942. She confessed her faith at her confirmation at Immanuel Lutheran on May 13, 1956 in Greenvine, Texas. Burdine was a faithful member of Fayetteville Brethren Church and St. John Lutheran Church of Ellinger for a number of years.
She graduated from Burton High School and attended Blinn College. Burdine met the love of her life, John Divin, Sr. and they married on January 5, 1963 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Burdine and John owned and operated several businesses around the community. She was a devoted wife, mother and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. Burdine instilled the importance of hard work, having a strong faith in the Lord, and the importance of family to all of her family members. Burdine was apart of the St. John Women of Church Group, Secretary and Treasurer of RVOS, a member of SPJST, on the Board of Directors for the Fayette County Farm Bureau, and apart of the St. John Lutheran Church Council. In her spare time, Burdine loved to go freshwater fishing and white tail deer hunting. She had a special place in her heart for animals and loved watching the hummingbirds from her home.
Burdine loved traveling, and spending quality time with her family. In 2019, Burdine's youngest son, Doug, took on the role of being a caregiver to Burdine for five years. He felt truly honored to have had the opportunity to care for his mother and will always treasure that special time spent with her in his heart forever.
Burdine is survived by three sons: Doug Divin of Ellinger; Bradley Divin and wife, JoAnn of Fayetteville, and John Divin, Jr. of La Grange; five grandchildren: Kristi and Drayton Divin, Chelsea Torres and husband, Alfred, Shane Divin and wife, Ashley and Katelyn Esquivel and husband, Alex; six great grandchildren: Joseph, Elizabeth, Mariah, Elijah, Kylie, and Jackson; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Hilgen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Divin, Sr.; grandson, Kyle Divin; brother, Gary Hilgen.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Koe nig-Belvill Funeral Home & Crematory in Ellinger. Family will be present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. to receive friends. A second visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Fayetteville Brethren Church. The funeral service will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fayetteville Brethren Church, St. John Lutheran Church of Ellinger, Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter, or to Amedisys Hospice.
