FLATONIA — Flatonia Bulldogs boy’s basketball defeated Ganado High School Jan. 19 at Bulldogs Gym in Flatonia by a final score of 75-52. Flatonia controlled the entire game and dominated on offense with all kinds of scoring from layups, floaters, and long-range shots.
"I think we really prepped for this game,” said Flatonia head basketball coach Chris Sodek. "We were upset they beat us at their place. We had a good week of practice and were focused. We thought the kids came out and did exactly what they were sup posed to do and came out and played hard. We had a lot of kids that had a great game tonight." Flatonia senior shooting guard Duke Sodek, son of head coach Chris Sodek, had his shot going all night from three point range and ended up draining 27 points. "Keegan Green made some great passes to me," Sodek said. "My other teammates made some really good plays, they rebounded well, and we were able to just get in a good flow because we were playing together really well today.”
Flatonia had a 12-4 lead in the first quarter after guard Keegan Green made a drive and a tough layup at just above the two minute mark. Bulldogs junior Kade Giese then made a layup of his own about a minute and a half later that was followed by two free throws from Sodek to surge ahead 20-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Midway through the second quarter, Green was fouled on a three-point attempt and made all three free throws to make it 2711 with five minutes to go. Sodek then went on a rampage from beyond the arc and hit three to - tal three pointers in the quarter with some layups mixed in from Green to take a 41-21 lead at half time. Sodek hit another trio of three pointers in the third quarter with continued help from Green on the offensive end as the Bulldogs put the game out of reach with a 60-39 scoreboard at the end of the third quarter. Flatonia started the fourth quarter with more fast break layups and cruised to a 7552 win.
