Austin County Fair is tough enough to wear pink

BELLVILLE – Every October, the Friday of the Youth Livestock Auction is also “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” day at the Austin County Fair.

BELLVILLE — Every October, the Friday of the Youth Livestock Auction is also “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” day at the Austin County Fair.

Volunteers from the Austin County Unit of the American Cancer Society stand at the entrance gates and give pink ribbon stickers to every fair attendee and volunteer who is wearing pink.

In return, the Austin County Fair Association and the Austin County Rodeo Committee make donations to the unit reflecting the number of ribbons handed out.

At the fair’s January board of directors meeting, President Kathy Ignasiak and Rodeo Committee Chairman Ricky Huff each gave $1,000 donations to unit President Caroline Kemper.

“The fair association is proud of our long history of supporting other nonprofits in our county and we enjoy seeing the community all dressed in pink at our Youth Livestock Auction, supporting both our exhibitors and cancer research,” said Ignasiak.
