CARMINE — The Round Top-Carmine Cubs fell to Richards High School Jan. 23 at Cubs Gym by a final score of 57-34.

A close game early led to Richards hitting long range shots, as well as scoring down low and on the block. “Richards is a good team,” said Round Top-Carmine head boy’s basketball coach Brock Marburger.

"They're in first place in dis trict for a reason. I give them a lot of credit. They came out here and took care of business. Our guys play hard. I know when we went to their place earlier in the year, they really took it to us, so our guys showed improvement. This year hasn’t been exactly what we wanted it to be, but day in and day out, they come to practice and work hard. It shows. They improved from the beginning of the year. That’s all I can ask of them.

The results aren’t always what we want them to be, but we’re young, and with seven guys it’s a struggle sometimes. They’re learning and improving. As a coach, that’s all I can ask for.”

Round Top-Carmine had the game tied at five and even hit a three from the wing by Evan Blake to help the Cubs climb back cut it to within one at 11-- 10 at the end of the first quarter.

They even had it neck-and-neck in the second quarter after a layup from center Tanner Schobel made it 16-16. Richards took the lead and stretched it for the remainder of the quarter to go ahead 31-19 at halftime on an and one basket, three-pointer, and a few more short-range makes.

The Panthers took control of the game in the third quarter on a ton of three-pointers and a few free throws to propel to a 46-25 lead at the end of the quarter.

More shots and layups in the fourth resulted in a 57-34 win for Richards.
