Nesbitt Memorial Library receives high honors

COLUMBUS – The Nesbitt Memorial Library in Columbus received the 2023 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award. The library, headed by Susan Chandler, placed in the top 15 percent out of 545 public libraries in the Texas library system.

COLUMBUS — The Nesbitt Memorial Library in Columbus received the 2023 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award. The library, headed by Susan Chandler, placed in the top 15 percent out of 545 public libraries in the Texas library system.

To successfully receive the Achievement of Library Excellence Award, the library must exhibit excellence by providing services to underserved and special populations, enhancing services, marketing in innovative ways, promoting cultural, topical, and educational programming, providing literacy support, providing summer reading clubs, pursuing collaborative efforts, supporting workforce development, providing for digital inclusion, and comprehensively training staff The Nesbitt Memorial Library is one of only 84 that earned this year’s award. Libraries enrich the lives of their community and stand as a historical archive of the past, present and the times to come through literature and art.
