LA GRANGE — The La Grange High School boy’s soccer team was defeated by Manor New Tech High School Jan. 30 at Leopards field by a score of 0-0 in regulation, but was outlasted in penalty kicks. Each team was pretty evenly matched and both had chances to score throughout regulation. It was a game with a lot of defense even though the two teams both had chances to score, leading to Manor New Tech outlasting the Leopards with PK’s.

“That team is probably one of the best teams in the district,” said La Grange first-year head boy's soccer coach Brodney Pool.

“Our guys competed. I thought we fought hard, we bounced back from Giddings.

We changed a few things and the kids fought hard, so I’m proud of our kids. It’s a long season. If we play like that every game, we’ll do well this season.”

The score was tied at halftime with a 0-0 showing as the first half was pretty even on both sides. Each team had chances to score and were able to lockdown on defense. New Tech threatened to score at the 36 minute mark in the second half until a La Grange defender was able to kick it out of danger.

The Leopards then made two big saves later in the game and New Tech was able to get another shot on goal at the 2:10 mark that was just wide of the goal. Each team traded saves in penalty kicks as Anthony Soto helped a good portion on offense and was able to score the second PK for La Grange. The Manor goalie made a huge diving save four shots later and Manor scored on the next attempt to win the game at a 0-0 draw, but a W in the win column with PK’s.
