Local shootist presents Pioneer Weaponry to DRT

COLUMBUS – The Dilue Rose Harris Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) welcomed self-described “history buff,” Daniel Newsom with the local Texas Historical Shootist Society (THSS) at their Jan. 23 meeting.

COLUMBUS — The Dilue Rose Harris Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) welcomed self-described “history buff,” Daniel Newsom with the local Texas Historical Shootist Society (THSS) at their Jan. 23 meeting.

He proved himself to be quite expert, knowledgeable and engaging with meeting attendees. Newsom shared a wealth of information on various pieces of pioneer weapons, a Bowie knife, Arkansas toothpick, Dragoon saber and Colt revolver, to name only a few. He shared the background, era, usage, and interesting facts of each and allowed the members to inspect and ask additional questions.

Newsom commented that the THSS may stage up to 10 scenarios annually on their property north of Columbus, but is part of a nationwide organization of history and gun enthusiasts. More information can be found at their website www.thss.org. For information on the DRT, visit the website at www.drtinfo.org or the Dilue Rose Harris Chapter Facebook page.
