LA GRANGE — Derek Spence will headline this month’s 22nd anniversary of the Fayette County Country Music Opry with a Tribute to George Strait on Monday, Feb. 20 at the KC Hall in La Grange.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.
Spence is an original Texan, born in Nacogdoches, earned a degree in Performing Arts Production from South Plains College. He has performed everywhere from Fiesta Texas to the Grand Ole Opry. During his time spent at the Grand Ole Opry, he shared the stage with folks like Shania Twain, Diamond Rio, Kenny Rogers, Trisha Yearwood, Mark Chesnutt, and Restless Heart. While in Nashville, two major record labels turned him down because they said “You look too much like George Strait.” The look and vocal talent have helped Spence become the top “George Strait Tribute Show” in America.
His music experience has included bandleader, vocal instructor, lead guitarist, vocalist producer and director. He has performed at all types of events, from rodeos to college football games.
Spence has spent many years perfecting his impersonations of various Texas artists including George Strait, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings.
His love of music has lasted over 27 years. This shows that Spence’s performances are incredibly entertaining and are the best addition to any event. The look and vocal talent have helped make him the top “George Strait Tribute” act in the nation.
