Over 60K of dirty money recovered

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported on Feb. 14, around noon, Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith con- ducted a traffic stop on I-10 west bound at the 661 mmile marker on a 2015 white Ford truck for traffic violations.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported on Feb. 14, around noon, Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith con- ducted a traffic stop on I-10 west bound at the 661 mmile marker on a 2015 white Ford truck for traffic violations.

Upon contact with the driver, several criminal indicators were observed.

After a conversation with the driver, Smith was given consent to search the vehicle, which was occupied by the male driver.

Smith located large speaker boxes under the rear seat of the truck and conducted a search with an X-ray scanner and observed bundles in the speakers.

After opening up the speaker boxes, Smith located several bundles of cash, which he recovered.

Assisting Smith on the scene was Drug Interdiction Sgt. Randy Thumann and his canine “Kolt,” and Deputy Herman Olvera.

The arrested was Luis Angel Castillo Jr., 24, of Laredo who was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange.

Castillo was charged with Felony Money Laundering. The total amount of money seized is $60,040 cash.
