SEALY — The Sealy High School softball team picked up a big win Feb. 13 at Lady Tigers Field by defeating Burton High School with a final score of 15-0 by mercy rule in four innings. Sealy put on a clinic defensively and offensively with lights out pitching and fielding, along with hitting the ball hard at the plate and finding the gaps. "We have a very talented group of kids,” said Sealy head softball coach Brittney Whitehead.

“We’re pretty young. We have five sophomores out there and two freshmen, so we’re a young group, but they have a lot of experience. They’ve played select ball. Our pitcher came out throwing hard, getting a lot of strikeouts for us. That gives our defense confidence and then our offense is able to come through and just get the pitches that they liked and get extra bases.”

Lady Tigers pitcher Charlie Ramos tossed two shutout innings and had the command going from the very start. “My arm feels good,” Ramos said. “It’s probably gonna be sore tomorrow, but a lot of practice. Practice everyday.”

Sealy’s Jade Barton added a RBI on a wild throw to start the scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a base hit blooper to center that made it 2-0. Sealy then scored four more runs in the inning with four more hits that found turf, one coming from Ramos. Ramos went on to hit a tworun rocket in the next inning on a shot to left field that made it 9-0.

Another base hit blooper made it 10-0 before Barton knocked an inside the park home run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 11-0 advantage.

Lady Tigers first baseman Antreece Coleman made it 13-0 on a base knock and shortstop Avery Grigar, along with Barton, drove in the final two runs with a double coming from Grigar and a shot to center from Barton put the icing on the cake for a 15-0 win by mercy rule in the bottom of the fourth inning.
