Twenty-five percent of all hazelnuts harvested annually make its way into Nutella jars.

In fact, the amount of Nutella produced in a year weighs as much as the Empire State Building coming in at 365,000 tons. There are 52 hazelnuts per jar with 240 jars being sold every 10 minutes.

Nutella wasn’t named Nutella until it came stateside. It was invented by Pietro Ferrero after World War II because chocolate became scarce.

It was named Supercrema gianduja.
