SEALY — The Sealy High School girl’s soccer team took down Bellville High School February 23 at TJ Mills Stadium in Sealy by a final score of 2-1.
An evenly matched game for it’s majority resulted in a goal each from both teams, but it was a free kick midway through the second half that propelled the Lady Tigers to a win.
“It’s always a great game coming out and playing with Bellville,” said Sealy head girl’s soccer coach Danielle Eschenburg.
“That Sealy-Bellville rivalry.
They came out to win the game and they weren’t gonna let us just get away with the things that we’re normally used to getting away with when we play teams.
They gave 100% and that nice kick at the end by Rebecca Garza. She did a great job and sealed the deal.”
Sealy soccer player Rebecca Garza nailed a free kick for a goal from the 20-yard line with 15:50 to go in the second half to earn her team the win. “I was really nervous,” Garza said. “I just came back in from getting out, then I was really praying I hope this goes in. I was like shaking my legs and everything. When I kicked it, I was like it’s going in.”
Bellville played a solid match in an outing that could’ve went either way. “I think it was a great game,” said Bellville head girl’s soccer coach Catherine Landua.
“It’s always a good game when Sealy plays Bellville. I think everybody played hard. I’m proud of my girls. I’m proud of the way they played.”
Bellville struck first with a goal in the opening 20 minutes of the game, then the Lady Tigers responded with a goal of their own on a fast break with 2:08 to play in the first half. Sealy put another shot on goal in the final seconds of the first half that was saved by Bellville. Sealy then made a huge block on a penalty kick at the 25 minute mark that was deflected above the goal post to keep the game tied at one.
About five minutes later, Gar za’s free kick goal made it 2-1. The Lady Tigers put two more shots on goal in the final six min utes and trotted to a 2-1 victory as they were able to keep Bell-
