COLUMBUS - Amanda Opperman, the sixth and eighth teacher at Columbus Junior High recently received a grant to take her students on a field trip to the NASA Space Center Houston. The Columbus Education Foundation (CEF) grant will cover the cost of the trip which is not in the budget allotted to her. Opperman was elated to get such a grant. "I'm so excited to receive the CEF grant! I have always wanted to take my students on a field trip to Space Center Houston! The students are going to have an opportunity to experience and discover really cool science, math, technology, and engineering through NASA. Some students may never get an opportunity like this again." One of the missions of CEF is to provide extra classroom funding for students to experience opportunities such as this to expand their learning development in different ways. CEF strives to provide supplemen - tal resources for educational endeavors that encourage academic excellence as well as fulfillment of academic potential within Columbus Independent School District and in postsecondary educa - tion.
