Puttin’ on the ritz Gatsby style

RESS COLUMBUS – All were puttin' on the ritz last Saturday night in Columbus.

RESS COLUMBUS — All were puttin' on the ritz last Saturday night in Columbus.

More than 200 people gathered at the Stafford Opera House in Columbus for 'The Great Gatsby' dinner theater in celebration of Valentine's Day and Columbus' Bicentennial.

It was a juice joint for dinner as, despite the prohibition of the 20s, giggle water, alcohol, was available to the masses. There was noodle juice for the teetotalers. The party was hosted by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.

The night was full of laughs and smiles with a silent auction, tasty food, delectable desserts, and a great show.

The Fayette County Community Theatre put on an encore performance of an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic, The Great Gatsby. The Columbus Chamber Director Shelley Janik said 'Thanks to the Fayette County Community theater for putting on such an awesome encore performance. Thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered, and sponsored this Bicentennial event, it turned out amazing!' The whole event was the Bee’s Knees.

And How! Check out https://columbustx200.columbustexas. org/ for all things Columbus Bicentennial. Contact the Columbus Chamber of Commerce if you would like to be a part of the 200 Club.

Janik also wanted to remind everyone that the contents from the 1973 time capsule are still on display at the Stafford Opera House for anyone wanting to come to view them. We are open Monday - Friday, 9-5 p.m. Be on the lookout for all of the great Bicentennial gifts we will have for sale and mark your calendars for Magnolia Days Festival, May 19-20, it’s going to be HUGE! Happy Birthday, Columbus!'
