Flatonia smokes Bloomington in softball

FLATONIA — The Flatonia High School softball team thrashed Bloomington High School March 5 at Bulldogs Field by a final score of 15-0. The pitching for the Lady Bulldogs was in full force and they were also able to put the bat on the ball while hitting it hard. "Jalee in the circle, she's done really well for us," said first-year Flatonia head softball coach Shane Walker. "She's just a freshman, so there's a bright future for her. I would've liked to see our bats come awake a little sooner. Just struggled with a little slow pitching we're not used to, but we found a way to get the runs in that we needed to." Lady Bulldogs pitcher Jalee Trussell hurled a shutout and was throwing the ball hard down the strike zone. "I practice through - out the week and I keep a good attitude," Trussell said on the keys to her success. "I just play ball." Flatonia took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and scored their sixth run in the bottom of the second inning on a base hit from Trussell. Flatonia added three more runs in the next inning on a bases loaded jam that was driven in with help from Katie Templeton on a single to center. Trussell then hit another shot in the final inning to put her team ahead 11-0 before they really started to pour it on with a bunch of walks and base hits. Flatonia's Kinsey Cedillo proceeded to draw a walk and load the bases, then Kara Croyle called game on an infield hit to the pitcher, which scored a run and put the game on ice for a 15-0 win in the bottom of the fourth inning by mercy rule.
