A good number of boys powerlifters from the tri-county area are heading to Abilene Saturday, March 23 for the Texas High School Powerlifting State Championships tournament. The event will be held at the Taylor County Expo Center at 1700 Highway 36 in Abilene.
These athletes include Cayden Tello and Clay Kohleffel of Co- lumbus, Isaac Vasquez of Fla - tonia, and Calvin Thompson of Schulenburg, and Kasey Zientek, Christopher Escobedo, Seth Wherry, Rafael Almaraz and Sergio Martinez of Brazos.
Powerlifting is a sport that we’ve seen breed a lot of state tournament qualifiers in recent years. Some not only qualifying, but performing up to winning standard and some have even set records. There’s a good chance at least one from this group has a strong showing on the biggest stage.
