COLUMBUS - Lady Cardinals softball scraped out a feisty win March 22 at Lady Cardinals Filed by a final score of 3-0. Colum bus put the ball on the bat just enough and was solid with their pitching, along with their defense to come up with an impressive win against a respectable Edna team. "The goal today was to try to get all three of our pitchers going,” said Co- lumbus head softball coach Alfred Rosa. "I got them good innings. They did a good job. I think we only gave up two hits.

They didn’t walk anybody, so that was good. The other goal was to try to get kids who normally don’t play a lot of playing time. They kind of stepped up and we scored some runs with those kids. It was a good job overall, good job de- fensively, and I felt like we could’ve scored a little bit more runs, but overall I was really pleased. When we can win a game in district,

it's always good. Edna al - ways plays us tough. That's my old hometown, but I do like to beat them."

Columbus junior pitcher

Mia Post didn't allow much of anything in the circle and also put together some big hits with her bat in order to help propel her team to vic- tory. "For hitting, we definitely work on all different kinds of pitches we're gon na see through district and playoffs," Post said. "On the mound, we just make sure we get bullpens in. Our thing is that if we get extra reps, the better we’ll do in games. That's our motto."

The Lady Cardinals scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning on a shot to the center- field wall from junior Ellie Brown. Post then ripped a shot of her own to the left field wall to add a run and make it 2-0 in the same inning. Post notched her team's final run by putting bat on ball once again in the bottom of the fifth inning with a poke to left field.

Senior Karlee Mathis came in the came for the Lady Cardinals in the last few innings to pitch a gem and not allow a run en route to an impressive 3-0 shutout for Columbus and a solid win while protecting home field.
