SCHULENBURG — The Schulenburg High School baseball team took down Bloomington High School by mercy rule with a final score of 15-0 March 19 at Shorthorns Field. Schulen burg put their pitching strengths in full effect while also putting on a show with their bats.

“We hit the ball well,” said Schulenburg head baseball coach Isaiah Barrera. "We needed that. The last two pitchers we faced have been really, really good and hadn't had a lot of hits. Needed some confidence and we had it tonight."

Schulenburg pitcher Carl Lichnovsky pitched a gem and didn’t allow a run, as well as minimal contact with the ball at the plate. "Just did a whole lot of stretching," Lichnovksy said on his success on the bump. "Stayed loose." The Shorthorns scored their first run in their first at bat on a double to left field, then scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning on

a bunch of pass balls, a few base hits, and some extra base hits as

well. After more pass balls in the bottom of the third inning,

Lichnovsky walked, leading to a run on a fielder's choice and two deep bombs from Schulenburg to charge ahead 15-0.

Lichnovsky’s pitching was top notch and Bloomington had no answer for the Shorthorn bats as the black and orange blasted their way to a 15-0 win by mercy rule in a game that was very lopsided

and a straight up hitting fest from Schulenburg.
