SEALY — The second Saturday in April always brings a day of unique and interesting activities at the Spring Fest in Sealy. On Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Sealy Historical Park located at 211 East Main St. in Sealy, there will be entertainment, old-fashioned games for the kids, and demonstrations of activities from yesteryear.
New to Spring Fest this year is a fine art show and sale featuring artists from seven Texas counties. Entertainment on the stage includes the Brown Sugar Band and the Alabama Coushatta Indian dancers.
The kids will have plenty to do with a lineup of activities, including a treasure hunt, hoop and stick races, a hula hoop competition, a Victorian tea party, train rides, balloon twisting, and face painting. All ages will enjoy the demonstrations where attendees can learn about beekeeping, raising chickens, caring for horses, playing the banjo, gardening, winemaking and quilting. There will also be an array of vendors selling beautifully hand-crafted items created from fabric, metal or wood.
A display of vintage vehicles will line the street that runs through “Old Sealy” featuring a collection of antique struc- tures, including Sealy's first jail built in 1887, the Hackbarth house built in 1880, and the 1927 AT&SF caboose. The museum and all buildings will be open for tours. The Sealy Area Historical Society is well known for its Spring Fest bake sale, which always features homemade pies, cakes, cookies, quiches and brittle.
In addition, hand-cranked ice cream churned by Interact Club volunteers and great food from the kitchen are available beginning at 11 a.m.
