DRT members get down and dirty

COLUMBUS – The members of the Dilue Rose Harris chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) welcomed guest speaker Stacy Holland to their March 19 meeting.

COLUMBUS — The members of the Dilue Rose Harris chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) welcomed guest speaker Stacy Holland to their March 19 meeting.

Holland spoke on soap making. She owns Zia Dutch Farms in Bellville and raises Arapawa goats. These special goats are the rarest breed in the world and are known as an excellent dairy goat. Holland shared a brief history of saponification and the great benefits of goat milk in soap.

The group then gathered around Holland as she demonstrated the actual process. She enthusiastically engaged participants as they observed and asked questions. Using this creamy goat milk, along with other fats, lye, and fragrances, the group was fascinated by the results.

More information on Arapawa goats can be found at Holland’s website, www.ZiaDutchFarms. com.
